About World Suicide Prevention Day
World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD), on 10 September, is organized by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP). WHO has been co-sponsor of the day. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness around the globe that suicide can be prevented.
Organisations in more than 40 countries are hosting events today to raise awareness, and we are bringing it into the virtual world and making it accessible to all the residents of Second Life.
Survivors of Suicide has spent over a decade dedicating itself to helping residents of the Second Life community, preventing suicide, raising awareness, and offering peer support through crisis and recovery. We are strong believers that everyone should have access to a support system to help them through crisis and recovery, and once recovered, help them stay well and prevent relapses. This is why peer support groups are so important in suicide prevention, and it ties in perfectly with this year's WSPD theme; Working Together to Prevent Suicide.
ʙʀᴏᴏᴋʟʏɴ ʙʀᴇᴇᴢᴇ ᴢᴀᴘᴘ (brooklynlemmings) and Sebastien Bouevier will be on hand to help if you should have any questions or want more information.
We look forward to seeing you there!
